Tersan Shipyard Partners with NES for New Ferry

Tersan Shipyard has secured a contract with Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) to provide power and automation systems for a new ferry project. The Turkish shipyard is working on this vessel for an undisclosed shipowner, marking another significant collaboration between the two companies. NES will serve as the system integrator, ensuring the seamless integration of various onboard systems.

Comprehensive Power and Automation Solutions

As part of its role, NES will deliver a complete power system that includes motors, generators, transformers, AC/DC switchboards, and a battery pack. Additionally, the company will supply a charging plug to connect the ferry to onshore charging stations, along with an integrated automation system. Mads Ulstein, Senior Vice President of Sales at NES, emphasized the importance of their role as system integrator, stating that the complexity and interdependence of onboard systems necessitate a focus on interoperability, performance optimization, and compliance with safety regulations.

The majority of the equipment is expected to be delivered in 2026. This contract, designated as NB1137, further solidifies NES’s position as a key player in the ferry segment. Hans Petter Erlandsen, Senior Bid Manager at NES, expressed gratitude to Tersan Shipyard and the shipowner for their trust in NES as a reliable partner. This latest ferry project is a variation of two vessels previously announced by NES in April, showcasing the ongoing collaboration between the companies.

Ulstein noted that winning this third contract with Tersan Shipyard in less than five months is a significant achievement. He highlighted the synergies between the current project and the earlier contracts, which will help mitigate project execution risks for all parties involved. NES operates as a subsidiary of HAV Group ASA, listed on Euronext Growth Oslo, and continues to expand its footprint in the maritime industry.
