TGS clinches streamer contract in Indonesia
TGS Secures Major Seismic Contract in Indonesia

Oslo-based TGS has announced a significant offshore seismic data acquisition contract in Indonesia, covering an area of approximately 10,000 square kilometers. The project aims to enhance exploration efforts through advanced 3D seismic data collection, followed by a dedicated phase for 4D seismic data acquisition focused on production monitoring. Scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2025, the survey is expected to last around eight months.
Project Highlights and Timeline
TGS, a leading seismic data specialist, is set to utilize a purpose-built Ramform-designed vessel for this ambitious project. The initial phases will concentrate on gathering 3D seismic data, which is crucial for exploration activities in the targeted region. Following this, the final month of the survey will shift gears to focus on 4D seismic data acquisition, aimed at monitoring production levels effectively.
According to TGS CEO Kristian Johansen, “With an acquisition period of approximately eight months, this contract secures utilization well into the third quarter of 2026.” This statement underscores the strategic importance of the contract, not only for TGS but also for the broader energy exploration community in Indonesia. The survey’s comprehensive approach is expected to yield valuable insights into the underwater geology, potentially leading to new discoveries in the region.
The decision to commence this extensive survey aligns with the growing demand for advanced seismic data in the oil and gas sector, which is increasingly relying on innovative technologies to optimize resource exploration and management. As the project unfolds, it will be closely watched by industry stakeholders for its potential impact on future exploration and production opportunities in Indonesia.
