Third ship spills oil in same area of the Philippines
Authorities in the Philippines have attended to another distressed vessel in Bataan, west of Manila, marking the third ship accident in the area within a week.
Oil was observed leaking into the ocean from the Mirola-1 yesterday, which had run aground near the shore of Mariveles town. Investigators suggest the ship had been abandoned, as nobody was found on board. The 45-year-old vessel had a history of illicit activities, including stealing over 30,000 liters of diesel last year.

In recent days, two other ships have also sunk in the same area. Over the weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported discovering leaks on the sunken tanker Jason Bradley. This 39-meter-long vessel was carrying a cargo of diesel when it sank in shallow waters in Bataan, near where the Terra Nova tanker capsized and sank last Thursday, spilling significant volumes of oil close to Manila.
