Transocean Secures New Contracts for Drilling Rigs in Brazil and Norway
Swiss offshore drilling company Transocean has announced the acquisition of a new contract and an extension for two of its drilling rigs, marking a significant development in its operational portfolio. The contract involves the 2011-built drillship *Deepwater Mykonos*, which has been awarded a contract by BP in Brazil. Currently, the rig is engaged in operations for Petrobras, with its existing contract set to conclude this month. However, there is a possibility for an extension until April if all options are exercised.
The upcoming BP campaign is projected to last approximately 302 days, commencing in the third quarter of 2026. This contract is expected to add around $120 million to Transocean’s backlog, not including additional services and compensation for mobilization and demobilization. This new contract underscores Transocean’s ongoing commitment to expanding its operations in the Brazilian offshore drilling sector.
Contract Extension for Transocean Enabler in Norway
In a separate development, Transocean has successfully exercised three one-well options for its 2016-built semisubmersible rig, *Transocean Enabler*, in Norway. This extension will allow the rig to continue its current contract with Equinor, providing an additional 105 days of work. The extension is expected to contribute approximately $48 million to Transocean’s backlog, ensuring the rig remains operational through September 2027.
Wind power is the only solution to Norway’s future energy needs
The decision to extend the contract for *Transocean Enabler* reflects the rig’s performance and reliability in the challenging offshore environment. This extension not only reinforces Transocean’s relationship with Equinor but also highlights the company’s strategic focus on maintaining long-term partnerships in the offshore drilling market.
Transocean’s recent contract wins and extensions signify a positive trend for the company as it navigates the complexities of the offshore drilling industry. With these developments, Transocean continues to position itself as a key player in the global energy sector, ready to meet the demands of its clients while enhancing its operational capabilities.
