TS Lines adds to newbuild series in China

TS Lines Expands Fleet with New Ship Orders

Taiwanese shipping company TS Lines is significantly enhancing its fleet through a new agreement with a Guangzhou-based shipyard. The Hong Kong-listed carrier has placed an order for four new 5,300 teu container ships, with deliveries slated for mid to late 2028. This move underscores TS Lines’ commitment to expanding its capacity, particularly in response to rising demand in the Asia-Pacific region.

New Orders and Upgrades at Huangpu Wenchong

TS Lines has returned to Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding to secure four 5,300 teu vessels, each costing approximately $61.3 million. These new builds are expected to be delivered between June and December of 2028. In addition to the new orders, the Taiwanese carrier has decided to upgrade two previously ordered 4,300 teu ships, also from Huangpu Wenchong, to match the larger 5,300 teu size. These upgraded vessels are anticipated to cost around $62.8 million each, bringing the total number of ships ordered from the yard to six.

Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, part of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has established a strong partnership with TS Lines over recent years. The shipyard has supplied vessels of various sizes, ranging from small feeder-class ships of 1,900 teu to the larger regional units like the latest batch of 5,300 teu vessels. This consistent collaboration highlights the shipyard’s role as a key supplier in TS Lines’ fleet expansion strategy.

Founded in 2001, TS Lines ranks as the 20th largest liner operator globally by capacity, boasting a fleet of approximately 40 vessels. The new orders are set to enhance the company’s owned tonnage and overall capacity, enabling it to better meet market demands, particularly in the competitive Asia-Pacific shipping sector.
