TS Lines Expands Fleet with New Shipbuilding Deal

Taiwan’s TS Lines is set to enhance its fleet with a significant newbuilding agreement with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a prominent Chinese shipyard. The intra-Asia carrier has ordered five firm and five optional vessels, each with a capacity of 5,000 TEU, at a cost of approximately $62.5 million per ship. These vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028, marking a strategic move to strengthen its operations in the region.

Strengthening Partnerships and Expanding Capacity

Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has emerged as a vital partner for TS Lines over the years. The Guangzhou-based shipyard has previously delivered various vessels to the carrier, including 1,900 TEU and 2,700 TEU ships. Currently, TS Lines has two additional 4,300 TEU newbuilds on order from the yard, expected to be delivered in 2027. This ongoing collaboration highlights the shipyard’s role as a key supplier for TS Lines as it seeks to expand its fleet and enhance its service offerings.

Founded in 2001, TS Lines ranks as the 20th largest liner by capacity, operating a fleet of around 40 vessels. The newbuilding program is a significant step for the company, allowing it to add up to 17 ships of various sizes in the coming years. This expansion is expected to bolster TS Lines’ competitive position in the intra-Asia shipping market, enabling the company to meet growing demand and improve operational efficiency.
