A subsidiary of Taiwan-based shipowner U-Ming Marine Transport Corp, U-Ming Marine, has recently made significant orders with two shipbuilders for a total of six bulk carriers across two vessel types, amounting to approximately US$300 million.

Orders Placed with Shipbuilders

U-Ming Marine’s subsidiary, U-Ming Marine Transport (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., has placed orders for two 211,000 DWT bulk carriers from Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (HT) at a price ranging from US$77 million to US$80 million per vessel. This brings the total contract value to between US$154 million and US$160 million. Additionally, the company has ordered four 64,000 DWT bulk carriers from Sumec Marine and New Dayang Shipyard at a price of US$35.5 million to US$38 million per vessel, totaling between US$142 million and US$152 million.

Next-Generation, Eco-Friendly Design

U-Ming Marine’s 211,000 DWT bulk carriers boast a next-generation, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient design. These vessels are equipped with optimized hull lines that enable a large cargo capacity and superior fuel efficiency. Furthermore, they feature emission-reducing and energy-saving technologies such as scrubbers and shaft generators, as well as designs ready for biofuel adoption and shore power systems to ensure better compatibility with future low-carbon fuel applications and global port emission regulations.

Collaboration with New Dayang Shipyard

This recent order for four 64,000 DWT bulk carriers from New Dayang Shipyard is not the first collaboration between U-Ming Marine and the shipyard. Previous contracts have been signed for multiple vessels of this class. The most recent order covers four “Crown 63” (Version 3.0) bulk carriers, measuring 199.99 meters in length overall, with a beam of 32.26 meters and a depth of 18.80 meters. This vessel type, considered a “star” product for New Dayang Shipyard, features fully independent intellectual property rights.

In conclusion, U-Ming Marine’s strategic orders for these bulk carriers signify a significant investment in modern, eco-friendly vessel designs that prioritize fuel efficiency and environmental sustainability. The collaboration with reputable shipbuilders highlights the company’s commitment to innovation and compliance with future maritime regulations.
