U.S Navy and Indian Naval Force Conduct Joint Exercise in the Indian Ocean

Highlighting the robust military partnership between India and the U.S., the Indian Navy and the U.S. Navy’s Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group conducted a joint exercise in the Indian Ocean.

On July 12, 2024, Indian Navy vessels INS Aditya and INS Visakhapatnam participated in the Maritime Partnership Exercise with the U.S. Naval Carrier Strike Group in the Arabian Sea. The U.S. side included the Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, the Arleigh Burke-Class Guided Missile Destroyer USS Daniel Inouye, and Carrier Air Wing 11.

This exercise underscored the commitment of both nations to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific. The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi stated that the forces focused on increasing maritime awareness, information sharing, logistics interoperability, and enhancing air capabilities.

Additionally, the Indian Navy is participating in the Rim of Pacific 2024 exercise in Hawaii. The Indian Frigate INS Shivalik, previously deployed in the South China Sea and the North Pacific, has arrived in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, for RIMPAC, the world’s largest naval exercise involving around 29 countries.

The Indian Navy has conducted numerous exercises with the U.S. Navy across various regions, including the Pacific, Africa, and Southwest Asia. India and the U.S., along with Japan and Australia, are part of the Quad Security Dialogue and also conduct Malabar exercises, the latest of which will be hosted by India in October in the Bay of Bengal.
