UAE Vows to Respond After Missile and Drone Attacks from Iran

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has declared its intention to “strike back” against Iran following a series of missile and drone attacks that targeted its territory. On May 4, 2026, Iranian forces launched at least four missiles and several drones, with some successfully hitting locations within the UAE. A senior UAE official communicated this response to Israel’s N12 network, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. “The Iranian regime has begun attacking us. We will strike back,” the official stated.

In the wake of these attacks, the UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority confirmed that its air defense systems were activated to counter the missile threat. The agency urged residents to remain in safe locations and stay updated through official channels. This escalation marks a significant increase in hostilities in the region, raising concerns about potential further conflict.

Iran’s Threats and Regional Tensions

In retaliation to the UAE’s warning, an Iranian military official issued a stark warning through the semi-official news agency Tasnim. The official stated that any military action taken by the UAE would result in severe consequences. “If the Emiratis become Israel’s plaything and make mistakes, they will learn a lesson that they will never forget,” the official warned, indicating that Iran would target all Emirati interests if provoked.

The Iranian rhetoric reflects the heightened tensions in the region, particularly following the UAE’s involvement with Israel. The Iranian official further claimed that the UAE’s actions could lead to a repeat of past conflicts, suggesting that restraint would no longer be an option if the UAE continued its current trajectory.

The UAE’s Ministry of Defense reported that three of the four missiles launched from Iran were intercepted over its territorial waters, with the remaining missile falling harmlessly into the sea. The ministry reassured the public that the sounds heard across the country were due to the successful interception of these aerial threats.

Incidents and Safety Measures in the UAE

As the situation unfolded, a significant fire broke out at the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone, attributed to a drone strike from Iran. Local authorities responded swiftly to contain the fire, and three Indian nationals were reported injured in the incident. The UAE government urged the public to avoid spreading rumors and to rely solely on official sources for information.

Additionally, the UK military’s Maritime Trade Operations center reported multiple incidents involving fires on cargo vessels near the UAE coast. These incidents prompted warnings for vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity. The cause of these fires remains under investigation, with no immediate claims of responsibility.

Despite the chaos, Emirati authorities issued an all-clear signal later in the evening, only to issue another missile alert shortly thereafter. This series of events underscores the precarious security situation in the region, as both the UAE and Iran navigate a complex landscape of military threats and geopolitical tensions. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, as further escalations could have significant implications for regional stability.
