Vehicle Carrier Splendid Ace Damaged in St. Vincent Port Incident

On the morning of November 10, the 198-meter-long vehicle carrier Splendid Ace (IMO: 9252228) was damaged while entering the port of Kingstown in St. Vincent, located in the Caribbean Sea. The ship was trying to dock at the cruise ship terminal when it struck an underwater object that was not immediately visible. The impact caused a puncture in the ship’s hull on the starboard side, near the front, at the waterline.

Fortunately, the ship’s crew acted quickly and unloaded enough cargo from the vessel to raise the damaged area above the waterline. This allowed the ship to stay afloat without taking in water. After the damage occurred, the ship underwent a thorough inspection to check for any further problems. The Splendid Ace remained at the dock for several days while the repairs and assessments were made.

During this time, no cruise ships were able to dock in St. Vincent, as the Splendid Ace blocked the cruise terminal. The ship was able to leave the port and continue its journey on November 12. There have been no reports of injuries to the crew or pollution being released into the sea during the incident.

The Splendid Ace’s timely actions and repairs helped avoid a worse situation, and no major environmental or safety concerns were reported from the accident.
