Venergy Maritime Expands with New LR2 Tanker Orders
Venergy Maritime, a rapidly growing Greek shipping company, is making significant strides in the product tanker sector with new orders for LR2 newbuildings in China. Under the leadership of Vyron Vasileiadis, the firm has secured contracts for two additional LR2 product tankers at New Times Shipbuilding, with options for two more. This latest move marks a pivotal expansion into the larger tanker segment, complementing Venergy’s existing fleet.
Strategic Growth in the Product Tanker Market
Founded in 2021 and based in Piraeus, Venergy Maritime initially concentrated on medium-range (MR) product tankers. The company currently operates a fleet of three modern MR vessels and is in the midst of a newbuilding program for six MR2 ships at K Shipbuilding in South Korea, with deliveries expected to extend through 2027. The recent order for LR2s follows a previous commitment for two additional LR2 tankers, solidifying Venergy’s position in the growing LR2 market while enhancing its established MR platform.
The company’s strategic approach includes a measured expansion into various segments of the shipping industry. Venergy Maritime is part of the broader V Group, which also includes businesses in port reception facilities, waste management, renewable energy, and alternative fuels. This diverse background informs Venergy’s approach to fleet growth. Vasileiadis emphasized the importance of asset quality, operational efficiency, and strong partnerships in shaping their long-term strategy.
With the new orders, Venergy Maritime’s potential newbuild tonnage now totals 18 ships, including MR2s, LR2s, and feeder containerships. This growth trajectory underscores the company’s ambition to scale its operations and adapt to the evolving needs of the maritime industry, positioning itself as a formidable player in the global shipping market.
