Wärtsilä and Qatar Shipyard Partner to Improve Ship Services

On September 30, 2024, Wärtsilä, a global leader in marine technology, and Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement will bring better maintenance and repair services for ships using the Qatar shipyard, including vessels with 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. The partnership will ensure shipowners receive the best technical support for their vessels, helping them operate efficiently and sustainably.

Improving Ship Services with Wärtsilä’s Expertise

At the signing event, Mr. Jos J.A.A. Goris, CEO of Qatar Shipyard, shared his excitement:

“This deal boosts our shipyard’s technical abilities, allowing us to serve both local and international clients better, faster, and safer.”

The collaboration covers repairs, maintenance, and upgrades for different kinds of ship engines and propulsion systems. It also includes services like:

  • Eco-friendly technologies and reconditioning services
  • Engine upgrades to improve efficiency
  • Decarbonization projects, such as dual-fuel engine conversions
  • Training programs through Wärtsilä’s Land and Sea Academy

By working together, both companies aim to provide advanced solutions for decarbonization, including feasibility studies on sustainable fuels and hybrid propulsion systems.

Supporting Modern LNG Carriers

The partnership will also focus on servicing LNG Carriers (LNGC). These modern vessels run on dual-fuel 2-stroke engines and 4-stroke auxiliary engines. With Wärtsilä’s experience, the shipyard will deliver high-quality maintenance to help these vessels operate efficiently.

Stefan Wiik, Wärtsilä’s Vice President for Parts and Field Service, said:

“Shipping is changing fast as the industry works towards greener operations. Partnerships like ours help shipowners get the best quality services to meet these new demands.”

A Long-Term Partnership for a Better Future

Wärtsilä and Qatar Shipyard’s collaboration has already built a strong reputation by providing reliable services to both local and global clients. Qatar Shipyard, located at the Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma shipyard complex, offers world-class facilities that will now benefit from Wärtsilä’s technology and expertise.
