Three new big ethane gas carrier (VLEC) vessels will receive fuel supply and cargo handling equipment from Wartsila Gas Solutions, a division of Wartsila organisation, a technology organisation. Purus, the owner, is having the ships constructed at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) yard in Korea. Wartsila booked the order in Q1 2024, and it solidifies the company’s dominant market position in this industry.

The Purus places a strong focus on having its fleet reach net zero carbon emissions by 2030, therefore the new ships are built to be as efficient as possible in every way. Based on their track record of successful installations and shown efficiency, Wartsila was chosen to provide the fuel supply and freight handling systems.

Years of experience and internal knowledge have contributed to the effectiveness and dependability of our fuel gas supply and cargo handling systems. This most recent order further demonstrates Wartsila’s leadership in the market in this domain, according to Harald Overland, Sales Manager, Wartsila Gas Solutions.

The Wartsila equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yard commencing in March 2025.

Purus is a global leader in offering marine services to energy customers worldwide for the offshore wind and gas transportation sectors. Along with Wartsila, they are leading the way in the decarbonization of the marine industry by owning and operating one of the largest and youngest fleets of gas carriers, crew transfer vessels (CTVs), and construction service operation boats (C/SOVs) in the world.
