Wärtsilä Gas Solutions reliquefaction system to improve Excelerate Energy’s FSRU operations with retrofit project
Wärtsilä to Provide Eco-Friendly Gas Systems for Excelerate Energy's Floating Storage Units
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a part of Wärtsilä’s technology group, will be supplying special gas systems to upgrade floating storage regasification units (FSRUs) owned by Excelerate Energy. Excelerate Energy is the world’s largest operator of FSRUs, and this project aims to make their operations more eco-friendly. The project will likely be finalized by Wärtsilä by the last quarter of 2024.
The system Wärtsilä provides is called the Compact Reliq Double Unit, based on a reversed Brayton cycle. This system is designed to reliquefy gases that boil off and send them back into storage tanks, which helps prevent emissions and saves gas. Additionally, the system comes with advanced technology that will lower Excelerate Energy’s maintenance and operation costs.
David Liner, Chief Operating Officer of Excelerate Energy, expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations, and this project is a big part of that promise. We are very happy to work with Wärtsilä Gas Solutions because of their great experience in this field and their cutting-edge technology.”
Wärtsilä LNG Fuel Gas Supply Systems continue to be the choice for CMA CGM newbuild vessels
Walter Reggente, Vice President of Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, shared his thoughts, saying, “As a leader in gas applications, Wärtsilä has shown that we can help make shipping greener. Partnering with Excelerate Energy, an industry leader, is a proud moment for us. This shows that our technology delivers both commercial and environmental benefits.”
The delivery of Wärtsilä’s systems is set to begin in early 2026.
