Wärtsilä to Supply Engines for Allseas’ New Heavy Transport Vessel

In a recent press release on 22 January 2026, technology group Wärtsilä announced that it will be supplying the engines for a new purpose-built semi-submersible Heavy Transport Vessel (HTV) being constructed for Allseas Group. The vessel, designed to minimize exhaust emissions and maximize fuel efficiency, is set to operate with four Wärtsilä 31 engines, each fitted with a Wärtsilä NOx Reducer for emissions abatement. Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028 at the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) facilities in China.

The Wärtsilä 31 engine was chosen for its modular design, which reduces maintenance costs and allows for the use of alternative sustainable fuels. Sytske de Groot, Manager of Naval Architecture at Allseas, expressed the importance of selecting the Wärtsilä 31 engine for its high efficiency, future-ready design, and ability to transition to low- and zero-carbon fuels. This decision aligns with Allseas’ long-term sustainability ambitions and operational adaptability.

Stefan Nysjö, Vice President of Power Supply at Wärtsilä Marine, emphasized the exceptional fuel efficiency of the Wärtsilä 31 engine, stating that it reduces operating costs immediately and supports the industry’s transition towards decarbonization. The engine’s capability to convert to sustainable fuels makes it one of the most future-ready propulsion solutions available in the market.
