West Bengal to become global shipbuilding hub: Rajnath Singh
West Bengal is poised to become a significant player in the global ship-building industry, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Speaking in Kolkata on Wednesday, Singh announced this exciting development as he kicked off the ‘Seva Se Sankalp Abhiyan,’ a month-long initiative starting on September 17.
Rapid Growth in Defence Production and Exports
Singh highlighted the remarkable growth in India’s defence production, which has surged four-fold to around Rs 1.80 lakh crore. He also noted that India is now exporting defence equipment to over 100 countries, showcasing the country’s increasing prowess in this sector.
The ‘Seva Se Sankalp Abhiyan’ will feature 12 nation-wide programs dedicated to service, social welfare, and public participation. This initiative is a tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of dedicated public service. Singh emphasized the significant strides made in poverty alleviation, with 25 crore people lifted out of poverty in the last 12 years. Additionally, over 94 crore individuals have benefitted from social security measures.
Focus on Economic Development and Governance
Singh underscored the transformation in India’s economic landscape, moving from being labeled as “over-regulated” and “under-governed” to a well-regulated and properly governed economy. He cited a robust growth rate of 7.8% as evidence of India’s economic vibrancy.
A new shipbuilding facility is on the horizon for West Bengal, with plans for construction in the East Midnapore district’s Haldia. Singh also emphasized the recognition accorded to West Bengal’s rich heritage, noting the historic moment when all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ were sung from the Red Fort on Independence Day, in homage to Bengal.
Praise for Leadership and Governance in Bengal
Singh commended the performance of Suvendu Adhikari and lauded the formation of a new government in Bengal under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. He highlighted the positive reception of the new chief minister’s governance across various states in India.
The future looks bright for West Bengal as it gears up to establish itself as a key player in the global ship-building industry, signaling exciting opportunities for growth and development in the region.
