Wison New Energies Advances Suriname's LNG Project

Wison New Energies, a Chinese company, has officially signed a detailed feasibility study for a new floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility off the coast of Suriname. This facility will be strategically positioned at the Petronas-operated Block 52, following ExxonMobil’s exit from the project last November. The FLNG unit aims to harness resources from the Sloanea gas field, located approximately 120 kilometers offshore, at a depth of around 450 meters.

Strategic Development of Suriname’s Energy Sector

The new FLNG facility is designed to play a crucial role in Suriname’s energy landscape. It will utilize a subsea production system to receive feed gas, which will then be processed into liquefied natural gas (LNG) and condensate. These products are intended for both domestic consumption and international export, marking a significant step towards enhancing the country’s energy independence.

Wison New Energies emphasizes that the feasibility study will lay the groundwork for a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study. This progression is expected to expedite the development of Suriname’s energy resources, which are vital for the nation’s economic growth. The collaboration with Petronas, which has taken full ownership of Block 52, underscores the strategic importance of this project in the region’s energy sector.

As global demand for cleaner energy sources continues to rise, Suriname’s initiative to develop its natural gas resources through this FLNG facility positions the country as a potential player in the international energy market. The successful implementation of this project could not only bolster Suriname’s energy supply but also contribute to its long-term economic stability.
