Workshop on Ship-Source Pollution Strengthens Spill Response Knowledge with Shanghai MSA

A recent workshop focused on ship-source pollution response, hosted by ITOPF in collaboration with the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), provided an in-depth exploration of current pollution risks in the maritime industry. The session addressed various challenges, including those posed by emerging marine fuels and hazardous noxious substances (HNS) cargoes.

Throughout the event, both ITOPF and the Shanghai MSA exchanged best practices and shared their experiences in handling pollution incidents. This collaboration allowed ITOPF to deepen its understanding of global response challenges, drawing on its 55 years of expertise in managing pollution events worldwide.

The workshop featured a hands-on, interactive spill response exercise, where Shanghai MSA participants engaged in a simulated pollution scenario. This exercise included resource management, cleanup techniques, and waste handling, all enhanced by ITOPF’s Virtual Reality (VR) aerial surveillance tool, which offered a realistic view of a pollution event from a virtual aircraft. ITOPF extended its appreciation to the Shanghai MSA for its active participation and engagement throughout the workshop.
