Zhoushan Changhong International Cuts Steel for the Seventh 11,400-TEU LNG
Chinese shipbuilder Zhoushan Changhong International has officially started construction on the seventh vessel in its series of 11,400-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships for Oceanroutes. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing project that aims to deliver a total of 18 vessels.
Cutting-Edge Design and Technology
The vessels in this series, jointly developed and designed by CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC) and Changhong International, boast impressive specifications. With an overall length of approximately 299.95 meters, a molded breadth of 48.20 meters, and a depth of 27.0 meters, these ships are classed by DNV.
The vessel design incorporates advanced technologies such as an optimized wide-body hull, lightweight materials, and an integrated dual-fuel system. Additionally, the ships feature energy-saving measures like a wind shield, energy-saving duct, and high-efficiency twisted rudder to significantly reduce main engine fuel consumption. These innovations ensure compliance with the latest regulatory standards and achieve an impressive energy-efficiency improvement of over 30% beyond the EEDI Phase III benchmark.
Industry Benchmark and Construction Progress
The project faced various challenges related to cost-efficiency, lightweighting, system integration, and construction techniques. However, it successfully overcame these obstacles and now stands as a significant industry benchmark for future vessel projects.
Construction of the first vessel in the series, Hull No.CHB2059, began on March 30, 2026, with subsequent vessels following suit. The second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth vessels started construction on April 10, May 15, June 10, July 10, and August 21, respectively. This steady progress highlights the commitment of Zhoushan Changhong International to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge vessels that push the boundaries of innovation in the maritime industry.
