Foreign Tourists Arrive in Cambodia for Day Trip

On December 31, 2024, nearly 500 foreign tourists arrived in Cambodia aboard the cruise ship SEA BOURN ENCORE. This ship docked at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, bringing visitors from 33 different nationalities. The arrival marks a significant moment for Cambodia’s tourism sector, showcasing the country’s appeal as a travel destination. The tourists were eager to explore the beauty and culture of the Kingdom of Cambodia, even if only for a day.

Details of the Arrival

The SEA BOURN ENCORE, registered in the Bahamas, is an impressive vessel. It measures 210.5 meters in length, 28.25 meters in width, and has a depth of 6 meters. Onboard, there were 470 tourists, with 250 of them being female. The cruise also had a crew of 402 members, including 103 women, representing a total of 47 nationalities. This diverse group of travelers included 170 Americans, 76 British, and 63 Australians, among others.

The ship arrived at Sihanoukville at 6:30 a.m. and is scheduled to depart at 8:00 p.m. the same day, heading towards Thailand. Among the tourists, 61 were from Siem Reap Province, representing six nationalities. The arrival of such a large number of tourists is a positive sign for the local economy, which has been recovering from the impacts of the pandemic.

Exploring Preah Sihanouk Province

The tourists had the opportunity to explore various attractions in Preah Sihanouk Province. They visited the fishing village of Tumnop Lek and the bustling market town of Preah Sihanouk City. The seaside area, known for its stunning views, also drew attention. Tourists admired the two lion statues and explored cultural sites such as Wat Indhanhan and Wat Chothanhan.

Additionally, visitors were intrigued by the Boy of Light statue and the statue of Preah Thong Neang Neak. The Vipassana Center of Durakiri Neak Van, also known as Wat Samadhi, in Ream Commune, Prey Nop District, offered a serene environment for reflection. These attractions highlight the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region, making it an appealing destination for international travelers.

The arrival of the SEA BOURN ENCORE and its passengers underscores the potential for growth in Cambodia’s tourism industry. As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, such events are crucial for revitalizing local economies and promoting cultural exchange.
