Royal Navy Ship HMS Trent Seizes Cocaine Worth £40 Million In The Caribbean Sea

HMS Trent, a Portsmouth-based Royal Navy patrol ship, recently seized over £40 million worth of cocaine during a successful operation in the Caribbean Sea. This marks the vessel’s sixth significant drug interception in 2024, bringing the total value of narcotics seized by HMS Trent this year to £551.5 million.

On August 8, the ship responded to a report of a suspicious speedboat approximately 120 nautical miles south of the Dominican Republic. With the support of a US Maritime Patrol Aircraft, HMS Trent swiftly intercepted the vessel. The joint efforts of Royal Marines and US Coast Guard officers led to the capture of 506kg of Class A narcotics, with three individuals on board handed over to US authorities for prosecution.

Commander Tim Langford, HMS Trent’s Commanding Officer, commended his crew for their effective collaboration with American partners, highlighting the ship’s vital role in anti-trafficking efforts in the Caribbean. The operation underscores the Royal Navy’s commitment to maintaining maritime security and disrupting illegal activities in the region.

HMS Trent remains active in the Caribbean, not only contributing to drug interception efforts but also providing support to British Overseas Territories during hurricane season and working to curtail the flow of illegal cargo through the region.
