OM Maritime inks chemical tanker newbuild brace in China

OM Maritime Orders Two New Chemical Tankers from Chinese Shipyard

OM Maritime, a shipping company from Singapore, is planning to grow its fleet with two brand-new chemical tankers. These ships are being built in China by a shipyard called New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, located in Jiangxi. Each of the new tankers will be able to carry 13,800 tons of cargo, and the first one is expected to be ready by the end of 2026. The exact cost of the ships has not been shared yet.

OM Maritime, founded in 2007 by Captain Subhangshu Dutt, already owns three tankers and has six more on lease. The company also operates two container ships through a bareboat charter, which is a leasing arrangement where the ships are used without crew or supplies provided by the owner.

Contracting Of Product Tankers Jump 337% In The First Half Of 2023

The shipyard building these new tankers, previously known as Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, has been busy with orders since it reopened in March last year. Many companies that own chemical tankers and multipurpose ships (MPP) have placed orders, making the shipyard a popular choice for new vessels.
