Waterline Shipping Boosts Operations at Vizhinjam Port with Local Talent and Feeder Services
Waterline Shipping and Logistics Private Limited, a growing shipping agency based in Vizhinjam, has achieved a significant milestone. Nearly 800 containers offloaded by a large mothership at Vizhinjam Port for delivery to Oman were successfully picked up by Waterline’s feeder ship, Asterios, which arrived from Singapore. This is a remarkable step, as such operations were previously carried out only by major international shipping giants like Maersk, MSC, and Express.
With the arrival of bigger vessels at Vizhinjam International Seaport, Waterline is making its mark in the competitive shipping industry. During recent trial runs, the company has shown it can provide reliable and efficient services. A key part of Waterline’s success is its workforce—15 skilled workers, all trained from the nearby coastal community. This local talent pool brings expertise in shipping operations, helping the company stand out among 43 other registered ship agencies at the port.
In October 2023, Waterline played an important role when the Zhen Hua 15, the first ship to dock at the Vizhinjam port, arrived. The company managed the mooring process, which involves guiding the ship with tugboats and securing it to the port. Additionally, Waterline handled crew changes, completed all the required paperwork, and ensured the operation followed necessary rules and regulations.
Waterline’s efficient handling of the feeder ship Asterios earned praise from the ship’s captain and recognition from Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd and Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd. The agency also took part in managing the San Fernando, the first mothership to arrive at the port for a trial run in July 2023.
Apart from regular shipping tasks, Waterline offers ship chandling services, providing essential provisions and supplies to large MSC vessels. With its skilled staff and growing experience, Waterline is positioning itself as a strong competitor in the shipping industry at Vizhinjam.
