Vard to Build Five Walk-to-Work Vessels
Vard, a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, has recently secured a significant contract for the design and construction of five specialized Walk-to-work vessels. This contract, valued highly in the maritime industry, marks a crucial step for Vard as it continues to strengthen its position as a leader in the global shipbuilding sector. The vessels will serve an international client and are specifically designed to support offshore operations in the oil and gas industry.
Innovative Design and Construction
The new Walk-to-work vessels will be built according to VARD’s advanced 3 32 design. This design has been developed through close collaboration with the customer, ensuring that it meets the specific needs of offshore operations. Vard’s design is based on its extensive portfolio of proven Service Operation Vessels (SOV), which are known for their efficiency and reliability. The vessels will be approximately 88 meters long and 19.8 meters wide, making them well-suited for various offshore tasks.
One of the standout features of these vessels is their propulsion system. They will be equipped with a diesel/electric and battery-hybrid system, which enhances fuel efficiency and reduces environmental impact. Additionally, the vessels will include a 3D motion compensated gangway system and a crane, both of which are essential for safe and effective operations in challenging offshore conditions. The design prioritizes comfort and functionality, providing accommodation for up to 190 crew members and technicians. This focus on comfort ensures that those on board can work efficiently and safely.

The construction of these vessels will take place at Vard’s shipyard in Vung Tau, Vietnam. The first four vessels are expected to be delivered in the latter half of 2027, with the final unit scheduled for delivery in early 2028.
