TotalEnergies, Vantage Drilling form drillship-owning entity

Vantage Drilling and TotalEnergies Form Joint Venture

Offshore drilling is a vital part of the energy sector. Recently, Vantage Drilling, a prominent offshore drilling contractor, announced a significant partnership with TotalEnergies, a leading French energy company. This collaboration involves the establishment of a joint venture called TEVA Ship Charter. The joint venture will manage the operations of the drillship, Tungsten Explorer. This partnership marks a strategic move for both companies as they aim to enhance their capabilities in offshore drilling.

Formation of TEVA Ship Charter

The joint venture, TEVA Ship Charter, is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed between Vantage Drilling and TotalEnergies in February 2024. This agreement outlines the terms of their collaboration and sets the stage for future operations. Under the agreement, TotalEnergies has invested $199 million to acquire a 75% stake in the joint venture. Vantage Drilling retains a 25% interest in TEVA. This financial arrangement reflects TotalEnergies’ commitment to expanding its offshore drilling operations.

As part of the agreement, TEVA will contract Vantage Drilling to operate the Tungsten Explorer for an initial period of ten years. There is also an option to extend this contract for an additional five years, providing both companies with flexibility and stability in their operations. The joint venture will officially take ownership of the drillship after the completion of its current contract in Congo. This strategic timing allows for a smooth transition and ensures that operations continue without interruption.
