Edison Strengthens Presence in Italy with Cruise Ship LNG Bunkering
Edison Expands LNG Bunkering in Italy
Energy firm Edison has successfully bunkered a TUI Cruises cruise ship with liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the port of Trieste, Italy. This operation involved the delivery to the cruise ship Mein Schiff Relax using the LNG carrier Ravenna Knutsen, which has a capacity of 30,000 m³. The event underscores the Adriatic Sea’s increasing significance in the LNG bunkering sector. Edison has been strategically positioning itself in the Small Scale LNG value chain since 2021, aiming to enhance the sustainability of both road and maritime transport.
Strategic Developments in LNG Supply
Edison has established a comprehensive LNG logistics chain to support its bunkering operations. The company has constructed a 20,000 cubic meter coastal LNG storage facility in Ravenna, which allows it to supply both bunker vessels and tankers efficiently. This infrastructure is crucial for meeting the growing demand for LNG in the region.
ABS Supports Edison Chouest’s Decarbonization Journey with Sustainability Reporting
Last year marked a significant milestone for Edison as it conducted its first LNG bunker delivery in the Adriatic Sea. This operation not only highlights the company’s commitment to expanding its LNG services but also reflects the broader trend of increasing reliance on LNG as a cleaner fuel alternative in maritime transport.
Edison is a key player in securing gas supplies for Italy, sourcing LNG from various countries, including the United States, Qatar, and Libya. The company’s efforts contribute to Italy’s energy security and its transition towards more sustainable energy sources. As the demand for LNG continues to rise, Edison’s strategic initiatives position it well to meet future challenges in the maritime fuel market.
