NYK Promotes Women’s Empowerment on International Women’s Day

On March 7, Yuko Tsutsui, an executive officer at NYK, took part in the Japan Exchange Group‘s International Women’s Day celebration. During the event, she rang a bell symbolizing support for gender equality and delivered a powerful closing message. This year’s ceremony emphasized women’s health and success, aligning with broader global initiatives to enhance women’s roles in society.

Commitment to Gender Equality

The United Nations has recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day since 1975 to advocate for women’s rights and opportunities. In line with this mission, the Japan Exchange Group (JPX) has hosted the “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” ceremony annually since 2018, collaborating with stock exchanges worldwide. This year’s event featured female executives and sponsors from the private sector, including Tsutsui, who serves as a board member of the Global Compact Network Japan, one of the event’s sponsors.

NYK has also been proactive in supporting women’s health and empowerment through various initiatives. The company offers video seminars focused on women’s health issues and features a collaborative menu in its cafeteria to promote healthy eating habits. Recognizing diversity and inclusion as critical management strategies, NYK launched its D&I Promise in September 2024, accompanied by a presidential message advocating for gender diversity. These efforts aim to foster an inclusive environment where all employees can thrive and contribute to the company’s social mission of “Bringing value to life.”

Celebrating Diversity

In celebration of International Women’s Day, NYK encouraged its officers and employees to wear yellow, the day’s symbolic color, as a show of solidarity. This initiative not only highlights the company’s commitment to gender equality but also reinforces the importance of diversity in the workplace. As a supporter of the United Nations Global Compact since 2006, NYK continues to uphold principles related to human rights, fair labor practices, and environmental responsibility, striving to be a responsible corporate citizen while promoting sustainable growth.

Through these initiatives, NYK aims to empower its diverse workforce and fulfill its commitment to social responsibility, ensuring that all employees have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
