ENEOS comes onboard Maersk-backed green methanol project
C2X Secures $100 Million Investment for Green Methanol Project

Green methanol provider C2X has announced a significant $100 million investment from A.P. Møller Holding, A.P. Møller – Mærsk, and Japanese energy company ENEOS. This funding will primarily support the final development phase of the Beaver Lake Renewable Energy (BLRE) project in Alexandria, Louisiana, which aims to produce over 500,000 tonnes of green methanol annually. C2X is also in talks to secure long-term agreements with Maersk and other key industry players.
Funding to Propel Renewable Energy Initiatives
The newly acquired funds will be instrumental in advancing the Beaver Lake Renewable Energy (BLRE) project, a collaboration between C2X and SunGas Renewables. The project will utilize SunGas’ innovative gasification system to convert biomass into low-carbon methanol. Construction is expected to commence in the latter half of 2026. BLRE stands to play a vital role in the transition to sustainable energy by meeting the growing demand for green methanol in various sectors, including shipping, chemicals, and industrial applications.
In addition to the BLRE project, the investment will also facilitate the development of C2X’s broader portfolio, which includes projects in Spain, Egypt, and various locations across the United States. Brian Davis, CEO of C2X, expressed gratitude for the support from existing shareholders and welcomed ENEOS as a key new partner. He emphasized that ENEOS’s involvement will help accelerate the shift toward low-carbon processes across multiple markets and industries.
Strategic Partnerships Driving Innovation
The collaboration between C2X, A.P. Møller – Mærsk, and ENEOS highlights a growing commitment among major energy players to invest in sustainable solutions. As global demand for renewable energy continues to rise, partnerships like these are crucial in developing innovative technologies that can significantly reduce carbon emissions. The green methanol produced at the BLRE project will not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also support the decarbonization efforts of key sectors, including maritime and industrial operations.
As C2X moves forward with its ambitious plans, the company’s initiatives signal a positive shift towards more sustainable energy practices, aligning with global goals for reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy security.
