Eco Marine Power Launches Solar Trials for Greener Shipping

Eco Marine Power Co., Ltd. has initiated evaluation trials for its upgraded solar power system, Aquarius Marine Solar Power. These trials, set to last between 12 to 18 months, aim to assess the system’s effectiveness in real maritime conditions, supporting the shipping industry’s shift towards sustainable operations. The first technology being tested comes from Merlin Solar Technologies Inc., known for its durable and efficient photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Innovative Solar Technology for Maritime Use

The evaluation of the solar module technology from Merlin Solar Technologies Inc. marks a significant advancement in marine energy solutions. These solar panels are designed to endure harsh maritime environments, ensuring reliable performance even under challenging conditions. The panels utilize mono-crystalline silicon technology, which is complemented by their lightweight and flexible design, allowing for easy installation through peel-and-stick methods.

Installation of the solar panels was carried out by Aries Marine, who fitted them onto specially designed frames on a bulk cargo ship. Over the coming months, additional PV module technologies from various manufacturers will be integrated into the system, further enhancing the evaluation process. This comprehensive approach aims to identify the most effective solar solutions for maritime applications.

Bob Brainard, Chief Product Officer and Founder of Merlin Solar, expressed pride in participating in this evaluation. He highlighted the company’s extensive experience in marine solar applications, stating that their panels have consistently delivered reliable performance across various vessels, from recreational boats to military ships. This collaboration is seen as a crucial step in promoting cleaner energy solutions within the maritime sector.
