Disney Cruise Ceremony Kicks Off Fourth Wish Class Ship Construction
Disney Cruise Line Launches Fourth Wish-Class Ship

Disney Cruise Line has officially commenced construction on its fourth Wish-class ship at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The milestone was celebrated with a traditional steel-cutting ceremony, marking the beginning of a vessel set to debut in 2027. This new ship will join its siblings, the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny, in offering eco-friendly cruising experiences powered by liquefied natural gas.
Steel-Cutting Ceremony Marks New Era
Today, Disney Cruise Line celebrated a significant milestone in its fleet expansion with the steel-cutting ceremony for its upcoming Wish-class ship. This event is steeped in maritime tradition, symbolizing the official start of construction for the new vessel. The ship is expected to weigh approximately 144,000 gross tons and accommodate around 4,000 guests, similar to its sister ships.
During the ceremony, key figures from Disney and Meyer Werft, including Joe Schott, president of Disney Signature Experiences, and representatives from Walt Disney Imagineering and Meyer Werft, gathered alongside Mickey Mouse to cut the first piece of steel. This momentous occasion not only highlights Disney’s commitment to innovation in maritime travel but also emphasizes its dedication to sustainability, as the new ship will be powered by liquefied natural gas.
In addition to this exciting development, another significant event is scheduled for tomorrow, August 9th. The Disney Destiny is set to float out of the shipyard for the first time, marking a crucial step in its construction process. This float-out signifies that the ship, which is slated to debut in November, is nearing completion and ready to embark on its inaugural journey.
Upcoming Launches: Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure
Before the fourth Wish-class ship sets sail, Disney Cruise Line has two new ships making their debut later this year. The Disney Destiny will embark on its maiden voyage from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in November 2025. This ship will offer an inaugural season of four and five-night cruises to The Bahamas and the Western Caribbean, including stops at Disney’s private island destinations, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
Meanwhile, the Disney Adventure is scheduled to launch from Singapore on December 15, 2025. This ship will feature three and four-night sailings, providing guests with magical days at sea. Originally acquired from the now-defunct Genting corporation, the Disney Adventure will be the largest vessel in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, promising an exciting new chapter for Disney’s maritime adventures.
