Turkey’s GSD Marin returns to Japan for fresh ultramax order

GSD Marin Expands Fleet with New Ultramax Order

GSD Marin, a Turkish bulker owner, has secured a new ultramax vessel order from Nihon Shipyard in Japan. This latest agreement involves a 64,000 deadweight tonnage (dwt) ship, set to be delivered in 2029. The Istanbul-listed company is already anticipating the arrival of a similar vessel from the same yard, scheduled for 2028.

Details of the New Order

The recent purchase agreement was finalized earlier this month through GSD Marin’s Malta-based subsidiary, Cano Maritime. A Japanese trading house is acting as the guarantor for this deal, although the financial details have not been disclosed. This new order reflects GSD Marin’s commitment to expanding its fleet and enhancing its operational capabilities in the shipping industry.

GSD Marin currently manages a fleet of nine bulk carriers, which includes vessels in both the handy and ultramax segments. The company’s strategic move to invest in additional ultramax ships underscores its growth ambitions and the increasing demand for bulk shipping services. The partnership with Nihon Shipyard, a joint venture between Imabari Shipbuilding and Japan Marine United, positions GSD Marin to benefit from Japan’s advanced shipbuilding technology and expertise.

As the global shipping industry continues to evolve, GSD Marin’s proactive approach in fleet expansion may provide a competitive edge in meeting future market demands. The company’s focus on modernizing its fleet aligns with broader trends in the maritime sector, where efficiency and capacity are increasingly prioritized.
