Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Achieves Record Profit

In a remarkable financial milestone, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has announced a record net profit of Taka 306.56 crore for the 2024–25 fiscal year. This achievement marks the highest profit in the company’s 54-year history, driven by robust operating income and effective cost management strategies. The announcement was made during BSC’s 48th annual general meeting in Chattogram, where key executives outlined the corporation’s impressive performance and future plans.

Financial Highlights and Strategic Plans

During the annual meeting, BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek presented the corporation’s financial results, revealing that total operational earnings reached Taka 590.98 crore. Additionally, income from other sources contributed Taka 207.30 crore, culminating in a total income of Taka 798.28 crore for the year. Operating costs were reported at Taka 289.92 crore, while administrative and financial expenses amounted to Taka 126.45 crore, leading to overall expenditures of Taka 416.27 crore. After accounting for taxes, the company achieved a net profit of Taka 306.56 crore, a significant increase from the previous year’s profit of Taka 249.69 crore.

Looking ahead, BSC is committed to expanding its commercial fleet in alignment with national development goals and the blue economy agenda. The corporation plans to enhance energy security and maintain uninterrupted supply chains by acquiring two crude oil mother tankers, each with a capacity of 114,000 tonnes, along with two bulk carrier vessels of 81,500 tonnes. Furthermore, BSC aims to acquire 12 cellular container vessels, with six currently under construction, supported by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. These strategic initiatives are designed to position BSC as a self-reliant and competitive player in the international shipping industry.
