Amon Maritime Secures NOK 298 Million for Green Shipping Initiative

Amon Maritime has received a substantial investment grant of NOK 298 million from Enova to support the construction of three new ammonia-fueled bulk carriers. This funding marks a significant step forward in the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping practices and positions Amon Bulk as a leader in the transition to low-carbon maritime solutions.

The new vessels, classified within the Kamsarmax segment, will each have a capacity of approximately 80,000 to 85,000 deadweight tons (DWT). Designed with a focus on high energy efficiency and the use of carbon-free fuel, these ships are tailored to meet the increasing demands of the European steel industry for low-carbon logistics. The initiative aligns with the European Union’s Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and the FuelEU Maritime regulation, ensuring compliance with stringent climate targets while maintaining strong economic viability under evolving regulatory frameworks.

CEO Highlights Milestone in Green Transition

André Risholm, CEO of Amon Maritime, emphasized the importance of this grant, stating, “This grant provides the foundation to move forward with three additional Kamsarmax vessels. It marks a significant milestone for Amon Bulk and for the shipping industry’s green transition.” This funding is part of a larger strategy, as Amon Bulk has now secured a total of NOK 552 million from Enova for the construction of five ammonia-powered bulk carriers. The first two vessels were announced earlier this year, with the latest three now added to the program.

All five ships are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030, representing a new generation of zero-emission bulk carriers. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in transforming global shipping practices, contributing to a more sustainable maritime industry.

Future of Shipping: A Commitment to Sustainability

The construction of these ammonia-fueled vessels is not only a response to regulatory pressures but also a proactive approach to meeting the future needs of the shipping industry. As global demand for low-carbon solutions continues to rise, Amon Bulk’s investment in ammonia-powered technology positions the company at the forefront of the green shipping revolution.

By focusing on energy efficiency and compliance with environmental regulations, Amon Maritime aims to set a benchmark for sustainable practices in the maritime sector. The company’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility is expected to inspire other players in the industry to adopt similar measures, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future for global shipping.
