Himalaya Shipping Secures New Charter for Mount Ita
Oslo-listed Himalaya Shipping has successfully secured a new time charter for one of its Newcastlemax vessels, the Mount Ita, enhancing its revenue potential. The vessel, which was built in 2023, has been chartered for a term of 11 to 14 months. This new contract is set to commence in the latter half of January, following the vessel’s return from its current charter obligations.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Mount Ita will earn an index-linked rate that is significantly above the Baltic 5TC benchmark. This innovative arrangement also includes options for converting the index-linked hire to fixed rates, depending on the prevailing forward freight agreement (FFA) curve. This flexibility aligns with the company’s strategic approach to balancing exposure in the volatile spot market while also capitalizing on favorable pricing opportunities.
Himalaya’s Fleet and Management Strategy
Himalaya Shipping, led by CEO Lars-Christian Svensen, operates a fleet of 12 LNG dual-fuel Newcastlemax bulk carriers. All vessels were delivered between 2023 and 2024 and are managed technically by OSM Thome and Wilhelmsen Ship Management. The recent charter agreement for the Mount Ita reflects the company’s ongoing strategy to optimize its earnings potential while maintaining flexibility in an unpredictable market environment.
