Almi Marine Resumes Newbuilding Ventures with Two Ultramax Bulk Carriers

Greek dry bulk operator Almi Marine Management has made a significant return to the newbuilding market after a four-year hiatus. The company has secured a contract for two next-generation ultramax bulk carriers with Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) in China. This announcement was confirmed by Managing Director Christos Hadjigeorgiou via social media. The new vessels, each with a deadweight tonnage of 64,000, are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2029.

These ultramax bulk carriers are designed to meet the upcoming Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase IV requirements, which aim to enhance the environmental performance of ships. The vessels will be equipped with the latest Everllence 10.7 electronic main engine, which is expected to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Additionally, they will feature a 2×25-tonne coil capability and CO₂ protection for cargo holds, along with various upgrades intended to boost operational efficiency and appeal to charterers.
