Joint Operation Reaches Stricken Thai Vessel in Strait of Hormuz
BANGKOK, Thailand – A joint maritime operation involving Iran and Oman has successfully reached the Thai-flagged commercial vessel Mayuree Naree, which was struck by projectiles while navigating the Strait of Hormuz. Thailand’s Foreign Minister, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, confirmed the operation’s success on Tuesday, although the condition of three Thai crew members still aboard the vessel remains unverified.
According to Minister Sihasak, the Iranian ambassador in Bangkok reported that the operation reached the Mayuree Naree within Iranian waters. Thai authorities are now awaiting official updates regarding the safety and status of the crew members. The vessel, owned by Precious Shipping, was attacked on March 11, 2026, resulting in damage to its engine room and leaving three crew members trapped onboard. Fortunately, the remaining 20 crew members managed to evacuate safely to Oman.
In light of the ongoing tensions in the region, Minister Sihasak emphasized that Thailand is not involved in the Middle Eastern conflict. He stated that the Thai government has requested cooperation from Tehran to ensure the safe passage of Thai commercial vessels through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The Foreign Ministry has provided Iran with a registry of Thai ships scheduled to transit the area.

Safe Transit for Thai Shipping Amid Regional Tensions
As part of ongoing efforts to secure safe maritime operations, Minister Sihasak confirmed that a vessel operated by Bangchak, an energy firm, successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz on Monday and is currently returning to Thailand. Additionally, another ship owned by SCG Chemicals is expected to transit the strait without incident.
The situation surrounding the Mayuree Naree highlights the risks faced by commercial shipping in the region. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, making it a focal point for geopolitical tensions. The attack on the Thai vessel underscores the potential dangers that vessels may encounter while transiting through these waters.
As Thai authorities await further information on the crew members still aboard the Mayuree Naree, the government continues to monitor the situation closely. The safety of its citizens remains a top priority, and efforts are being made to ensure that Thai commercial shipping can operate securely in the region.
