Norwegian Aura Launched: NCL’s Largest Ship Yet
Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) have officially launched the Norwegian Aura at the Monfalcone shipyard in Italy, marking a significant step in the ship’s development. This new vessel, set to be the largest in NCL’s fleet, is scheduled for delivery in spring 2027. Following its debut in Europe, Norwegian Aura will be deployed to Miami, enhancing NCL’s offerings in the cruise market.
Norwegian Aura: A New Era of Cruising
The Norwegian Aura boasts an impressive gross tonnage of approximately 170,000 GT and measures around 344 meters in length, making it about 10% larger than its Prima Plus counterparts, Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna. Designed to accommodate 3,880 guests at double occupancy, the ship features 1,976 cabins, emphasizing NCL’s commitment to providing a spacious and activity-rich cruising experience.
Among the standout features of Norwegian Aura is a large multi-deck water park, which will include more slides than any previous NCL ship, such as dual mat racing slides and a thrilling free-fall body slide. The vessel will also offer a rope course and a vertical climbing wall, enhancing the outdoor activity options available to guests. An expanded version of Ocean Boulevard, NCL’s signature 360-degree outdoor promenade, will provide more infinity pools, hot tubs, and lounge seating than earlier ships in the Prima and Prima Plus classes.
These attractions will be integrated into Ocean Heights, a multi-deck outdoor activity zone designed for both daytime fun and evening entertainment. This innovative layout aims to create a seamless flow for guests, ensuring that outdoor living remains a focal point of the cruising experience.
Celebrating Partnerships and Future Talent
The launch ceremony at the Monfalcone shipyard was attended by key figures, including Andrea Marongiu, Senior Director of Newbuilding Project Owner for NCL, and Cristiano Bazzara, Director of the Monfalcone shipyard. The event also highlighted Fincantieri’s commitment to fostering local talent, as students from nearby Technical Institutes and Higher Technical Institutes (ITS) participated in the celebration. This initiative underscores the shipyard’s dedication to bridging the gap between education and industry, helping to cultivate specialized skills in shipbuilding.
Norwegian Aura represents the ongoing partnership between Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH), which includes NCL, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. With recent orders for three additional next-generation ships, the total number of vessels built or on order for NCLH at Fincantieri has reached 16, with deliveries scheduled through 2037. This collaboration has been pivotal in evolving NCLH’s fleet, transitioning from earlier designs to the innovative Prima and Prima Plus classes, and Norwegian Aura continues this trend by incorporating lessons learned from its predecessors.
