Royal Caribbean’s Newest Ship Enters Sea Trials

Royal Caribbean’s latest cruise ship, Legend of the Seas, has officially begun its sea trials, marking a significant milestone ahead of its scheduled launch in July 2026. The ship is currently undergoing rigorous testing in Turku, Finland, where over 2,000 engineers and specialists are evaluating its systems and performance. This testing phase includes assessments of the ship’s maneuverability and engine capabilities as it prepares for its inaugural Mediterranean voyages.

Testing and Features of Legend of the Seas

The Legend of the Seas is set to cover approximately 2,400 nautical miles during its sea trials before returning to the Meyer Turku shipyard for final construction stages. This ship will be the third in Royal Caribbean’s Icon class, following the Icon and Star of the Seas. With a gross tonnage of 250,800 and a capacity to accommodate 5,610 guests, it matches the size of its predecessors and will be the first Icon class ship to operate from the Mediterranean, offering departures from Barcelona and Rome.

Guests can expect a range of exciting features that have become hallmarks of the Icon class. The ship will include six giant waterslides, over 20 bars and lounges, and the Royal Promenade, which boasts stunning floor-to-ceiling ocean views. Additionally, Legend will introduce exclusive attractions such as the Broadway musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a unique Royal Railway-themed dining experience that transports diners along the ancient Silk Routes through a blend of entertainment, cuisine, and technology.

Entertainment options will also feature performances from former contestants of America’s Got Talent, along with new AquaTheater and ice skating shows. Culinary offerings will expand with new dining venues showcasing Japanese street food, traditional American dishes, and Italian specialties. Furthermore, a Hollywood-inspired specialty dining supper club concept will debut on board, enhancing the overall guest experience.

Future Itineraries and Launch Plans

After its inaugural summer season in Europe, Legend of the Seas will set sail for Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it will offer Caribbean itineraries, including visits to the private island Perfect Day at CocoCay. This ship promises to deliver a blend of luxury, entertainment, and adventure, making it a highly anticipated addition to Royal Caribbean’s fleet.
