Tankers Collide in Campana Argentina

On May 4, 2026, at 5:36 p.m., a collision occurred between two tankers in the port of Campana, located on the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway. The incident involved the tanker ‘Ginga Bobcat’ (IMO: 9472737), which was traveling upstream from Montevideo, and the ‘Helios‘, which was moored and loading gasoline and diesel at the time. The ‘Ginga Bobcat’, carrying a cargo of 10,300 tons of sulfuric acid destined for the TFA terminal in Greater Rosario, struck the starboard stern of the ‘Helios’ while traveling at a speed of approximately 8.6 knots.

Following the allision, both vessels sustained significant damage. The bow of the ‘Ginga Bobcat’ was breached on the port side, and the stern of the ‘Helios’ was also seriously affected above the waterline. The ‘Ginga Bobcat’ dropped anchor at position S 34° 09′ N 058° 58′ W after the collision. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or serious injuries among the crew members of either vessel.

In response to the incident, the Argentine Naval Prefecture promptly activated safety protocols. Authorities began assessing the structural damage to both hulls to ensure there were no leaks that could pose an environmental risk. The area around the incident remains under strict surveillance by the Coast Guard to prevent any potential hazards in the river.
