Columbia Shipmanagement Orders Four 50,000 DWT MR Product Tankers at CSSC
Shipping broker Banchero Costa has reported that Columbia Shipmanagement has recently placed an order with Chinese shipbuilder CSSC Chengxi Shipyard for the construction of four 50,000 DWT MR product tankers. The first vessel comes with a price tag of approximately $45 million, while the remaining three are priced at around $42 million each. The total cost for all four vessels amounts to approximately $171 million, with an expected completion and delivery timeline set between 2029 and 2030.
Expansion in the Maritime Sector
During the 32nd SMM Hamburg maritime trade fair, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard inked a deal with Cyprus-based shipowner Schoeller Holdings for the construction of four MR2 product tankers. This move signifies a significant expansion in the maritime sector, showcasing a growing demand for modern and efficient vessels.
In a separate development, CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited announced plans to build ten 80,000 DWT bulk carriers at CSSC Chengxi Shipyard. The total construction cost for this project is estimated to be RMB 3.235 billion, with deliveries scheduled between September 2029 and December 2030. CSSC Guangxi Shipbuilding will also play a crucial role in the construction process, sharing responsibilities with CSSC Chengxi Shipyard for the design, construction, and timely delivery of these bulk carriers.

CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, a prominent shipbuilding enterprise under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), holds a pivotal position in Jiangsu Province’s shipbuilding and marine engineering sector. With three production bases located in Jiangyin, Taizhou, and Yangzhou, the shipyard focuses primarily on ship construction activities.
