Uni-Tankers Orders Eight Stainless Steel Chemical Tankers from Haidong Shipyard
Danish shipowner and operator Uni-Tankers recently made a significant announcement via social media on September 25. The company revealed that it has placed an order with the State-owned Haidong Shipyard for eight 7,600 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers. This move is part of Uni-Tankers’ continuous efforts to renew and modernize its fleet. The delivery of these new vessels is anticipated to commence in 2028.
Features of the New Stainless Steel Chemical Tankers
These newly ordered stainless steel chemical tankers are designed to be energy-efficient, boasting a gross tonnage of 4,998. They are equipped with 14 cargo tanks and have a cargo capacity of 8,310 cubic meters. These vessels are classified by Bureau Veritas (BV) and will proudly fly the Maltese flag. Upon delivery, these modern vessels will gradually replace older ones in Uni-Tankers’ fleet, enabling the company to offer enhanced services to customers in its primary markets.
Uni-Tankers and Haidong Shipyard Collaboration
It is essential to note that the eight 7,600 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers were not directly purchased by Uni-Tankers. Instead, the company has signed an agreement for these vessels, which will be incorporated into its fleet through time charter arrangements upon delivery. A Uni-Tankers spokesperson expressed, “The signing of this new shipbuilding project signifies a significant milestone for us. These vessels will play a pivotal role in advancing our fleet’s modernization and improving our global customer service capabilities.”
Uni-Tankers, established in 1995, presently operates a fleet of 41 vessels, including both owned and chartered vessels. The company is currently executing a fleet renewal plan and aims to expand its time-charter fleet. During the 2025–2026 fiscal year, Uni-Tankers sold three vessels and acquired one to further strengthen its operations.
On the other hand, the State-owned Haidong Shipyard, founded in 1958, specializes in building high-value oil tankers and chemical tankers, including stainless steel variants. The shipyard, located in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, boasts impressive infrastructure, including six large shipbuilding slipways and advanced equipment for ship construction. Over the years, Haidong Shipyard has delivered more than 100 vessels to both domestic and international shipowners, ranging from oil tankers and chemical tankers to container ships and bulk carriers.
