New LNG Carrier for Diamond Global Energy Named “DIAMOND GAS
On September 18, NYK Line celebrated the naming of its latest liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, “DIAMOND GAS NEXUS,” at a ceremony held at HD Hyundai Samho Co., Ltd. in South Korea. The event featured prominent guests, including Tetsuro Wada, CEO of Diamond Global Energy Pte. Ltd. (DGE), and Ryutaro Okuzawa, Executive Officer of NYK. The new vessel will play a critical role in the transportation of LNG, particularly for the Cameron LNG project based in the United States.
The “DIAMOND GAS NEXUS” has been chartered to DGE, a fully owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation located in Singapore, under a long-term time-charter agreement. This partnership aligns with NYK’s commitment to enhancing its LNG transportation services and supporting global energy supply. Both Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK will collaborate closely in this venture, ensuring reliable and efficient LNG delivery to meet growing energy demands.
Advanced Technology and Environmental Efficiency
The “DIAMOND GAS NEXUS” is equipped with cutting-edge technology designed to improve efficiency and minimize environmental impact. It features the WinGD dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine, which can operate on both fuel oil and boil-off gas. This innovation not only enhances fuel efficiency but also contributes to lower emissions.
In addition, the vessel comes with a sub-cooler system that effectively cools the cargo and reduces the production of excess boil-off gas. This feature is crucial for enhancing transportation effectiveness and supporting NYK’s goals for sustainable operations. The “DIAMOND GAS NEXUS” has an overall length of 289.9 meters and a beam of 46.1 meters, with a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, showcasing its significant capability in the LNG sector.
