Andhra CM urges shipping ministry to set up shipbuilding centre
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently met with Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, to discuss the expansion of maritime-based economic activities in the state. Naidu emphasized the need for cooperation from the Centre to further develop ports, establish a terminal at Mulapeta Port, and set up a shipbuilding centre at Dugarajapatnam.
Boosting Economic Growth through Maritime Initiatives
During the meeting, Naidu highlighted the state’s focus on accelerating industrial and commercial growth by leveraging its extensive coastline. He emphasized the potential for creating employment and investment opportunities through the development of sectors like shipbuilding, ship repair, and marine engineering in conjunction with existing and proposed ports.
Key Projects for Economic Development
Naidu specifically pointed out the significance of developing Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam district, stating that it would significantly enhance commercial activities in North Andhra. He urged the Centre to support the development of the terminal and necessary infrastructure for the port to facilitate its growth and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
By seeking the Centre’s cooperation for these strategic maritime initiatives, Andhra Pradesh aims to further strengthen its position as a key player in the maritime industry and boost economic growth through enhanced port infrastructure and related activities.
