Bluewater Group’s $524 Million Marine Engineering and Ship Repair Base Breaks

On October 20, a significant milestone was reached as the Sanpu Marine Engineering New Energy Equipment Manufacturing and Ship Repair/Newbuilding Base project of the Bluewater Group commenced construction at Gaopai Port in Dongfang City. This project aims to address the need for large-scale green ship repair and high-end offshore engineering maintenance services in the southern region of Guangzhou. The ultimate goal is to provide nearby support and efficient maintenance for vessels and offshore platforms operating in the South China Sea.

Key Details of the Project

The project boasts a staggering total investment of approximately 3.5 billion yuan, equivalent to around $524 million. Spanning across an expansive area of about 500,000 square meters, it includes the development of one 300,000-ton repair dock and one 200,000-ton repair dock. The total berth shoreline length is estimated to be approximately 2.06 kilometers.

Focus on Green Ship Repair and Industrial Ecosystem

At the core of its operations, the base will prioritize green ship repair services and upon its completion, is expected to have an annual ship repair capacity exceeding 200 vessels. Additionally, the project will encompass high-end offshore oil and gas, deep-sea aquaculture, and wind energy equipment manufacturing, creating a closed-loop industrial ecosystem characterized by “stable ship repair volume and value-added offshore engineering.” This strategic initiative aligns with the broader goal of positioning China as a maritime power and supports the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
