Aker Carbon Capture Secures Major Contract in Norway

FORNEBU, Norway — Aker Carbon Capture (ACC ASA) has announced a significant contract win for a carbon capture project at Hafslund Celsio AS’s waste-to-energy facility in Klemetsrud, Oslo. The engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract was awarded to SLB Capturi, in collaboration with Aker Solutions. This initiative is part of the Longship project, a comprehensive carbon capture and storage effort spearheaded by the Norwegian government.

Project Details and Impact

The contract encompasses the delivery of a carbon capture plant, a liquefaction system, and a temporary storage and loading facility at the waste incineration site. Additionally, it includes an intermediate CO2 storage and ship loading system at Oslo harbor. From there, captured CO2 will be transported to the Northern Lights permanent storage facility located on the Norwegian continental shelf. Once operational, expected by the third quarter of 2029, the facility aims to capture approximately 350,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.

This contract follows a cost-reduction phase that identified efficiencies in the project, including layout optimization. The innovative design of the Just Catch 400 unit, developed by SLB Capturi, plays a crucial role in the project’s viability. Its modularized and space-efficient design minimizes the onsite footprint and reduces installation and outfitting work, making it a cost-effective solution for carbon capture.

Aker Horizons, the parent company of Aker Carbon Capture, is committed to advancing green energy and industry to facilitate the transition to Net Zero. The company operates across five continents, focusing on renewable energy and sustainable industrial assets. The collaboration with SLB Capturi marks a significant step in Aker’s ongoing efforts to drive decarbonization globally.
