Empowering Dutch Exporters with Atal Solutions: Fuel-Saving and Emission Reduction for Shipping
- Reduce fuel consumption by at least 20%
- Decrease CO2, SO, and NO emissions by up to 99%
- Cut particulate matter by up to 75%
- Extend the lifespan of vessels by 10 years
- Lower overall operational expenses
In collaboration with BAM Shipping, Atal is providing a practical option for significant fuel savings and emission reductions for existing vessels. This initiative not only strengthens the export of capital goods from the Netherlands but also addresses the urgent need for sustainable practices in the shipping industry.
“We focus on impactful solutions—easy and quick to implement, based on proven technologies—while avoiding idealistic approaches. If we truly believe in a project, we commit to making it happen,” said Edwin Sieswerda, founder and managing director of Atal.
Initially, the shipping industry concentrated on using alternative fuels to reduce emissions for existing vessels. However, this strategy falls short due to a lack of shipyards for modifications and inadequate global infrastructure for alternative fuels. Thus, Atal will prioritize maximizing fuel savings and emission reductions using traditional fuels. This approach can be swiftly applied to existing vessels, offering a more immediate and substantial positive environmental impact.
Rutger van Dam of Damen stated: “At Damen, we are proud to partner with Atal to provide robust solutions for financing large projects like those with BAM Shipping while mitigating risk and maintaining sustainability. By embracing Atal’s innovative vision and capabilities, we are confident that this collaboration offers the perfect solutions to meet the demand for cleaner shipping and fuel-saving technologies. Our mutual goal is to accelerate the transition to more sustainable shipping while ensuring competitive business models. The financing structure of this project is groundbreaking, enabling significant advancements in sustainable shipping with a commercially viable model.”
From an export finance perspective, this integrated approach, combined with an attractive export finance solution, empowers Dutch exporters to significantly increase their sales and exports.
“Currently, we are working on four vessels, but we anticipate many similar projects will follow the successful implementation of this initiative. Additionally, we expect increased support from the financial sector as the positive impact of our integrated solution becomes evident. Atal’s ongoing collaboration with Damen and other industry players is setting a new standard for fuel-saving and emission-reduction solutions,” stated Edwin Sieswerda, Founder and Managing Director of Atal.
