Austal USA Secures Contract for Two Additional LCU 1700 Vessels for US Navy
Austal Limited (ASX: ASB) has announced that Austal USA has received a contract modification worth US$54.99 million (A$84.46 million) for the construction of two additional Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1700-class vessels for the US Navy. Initially contracted in September 2023 for three LCUs with options for nine more, this modification brings the total LCUs scheduled or under construction at Austal USA to five, with a potential contract value of US$379.7 million (A$587.6 million).
Austal Limited CEO Paddy Gregg praised Austal USA’s successful start to the first LCU’s construction, highlighting the company’s steel shipbuilding capabilities in Mobile, Alabama. The LCU 1700-class vessels, featuring a 170-ton payload capacity and roll-on/roll-off design, will support the US Navy’s amphibious assault ships in various military operations. Each vessel can transit independently with a range of 1,200 nautical miles and a top speed of 11 knots.
