Azerbaijan’s“Azykh” Tugboat Officially Goes Into Operation

Azerbaijan has recently expanded its maritime capabilities with the commissioning of a new tugboat named “Azykh.” Built at the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company’s (ASCO) Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Yard, this vessel is set to enhance operations within the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet. The introduction of “Azykh” marks a significant milestone for ASCO, showcasing its commitment to modernizing the fleet and adhering to international standards in shipbuilding.

Azykh: Specifications and Capabilities

The “Azykh” tugboat measures 24.72 meters in length and 6.60 meters in width. It stands 3 meters tall and has a draft of 1.6 meters, allowing it to navigate various water conditions effectively. With a deadweight capacity of 14 tons, the vessel is designed to handle substantial loads. Operated by a crew of seven, “Azykh” can reach speeds of up to 9 knots, making it a reliable asset for towing and assisting larger vessels in the Caspian Sea.

In addition to its operational capabilities, “Azykh” can carry up to 3 tons of cargo on its deck. This feature enhances its versatility, allowing it to support various maritime operations, including oil transportation and supply missions. The tugboat is the fifth vessel constructed at the Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Yard, following the successful delivery of similar vessels such as “ASCO 1,” “Terterchay,” “Hekarichay,” and “Bargushadchay.” Currently, another vessel from this series is under construction, with plans for phased commissioning to further bolster the fleet.

The design of the “Azykh” tugboat aligns with international standards, reflecting ASCO’s dedication to quality and safety in maritime operations. The specialists at ASCO Engineering LLC were responsible for the vessel’s design, ensuring it meets the rigorous requirements of modern shipping. Since 2017, the Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Yard has been engaged in comprehensive shipbuilding and repair services, equipped with the necessary certifications to undertake such projects.

The commissioning of “Azykh” not only enhances Azerbaijan’s maritime capabilities but also underscores the country’s commitment to advancing its shipping industry.
