Bureau Veritas Supports Final Delivery of CIMC SOE’s Third Advanced 7,600m³ LNG bunkering vessel

Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV), a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification, is pleased to announce the successful delivery of the third 7,600m³ LNG bunkering vessel, S1067, built by Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. (CIMC SOE) for Seaspan Energy. This project is a further example of BV’s continued collaboration with leading shipbuilders, charterers, and shipyards to support the development of LNG bunkering vessels, which are a vital tool in supporting the maritime industry in its transition to more sustainable fuels.

Advanced Features of the S1067 Vessel

The S1067 vessel boasts several advanced features that enhance its operational capabilities. It operates on a dual-fuel system, allowing for greater flexibility in fuel choice. The vessel is equipped with a state-of-the-art DC power distribution system, which improves energy efficiency. Additionally, it has twin Type C cargo tanks designed to optimize storage and handling of LNG.

For propulsion, the S1067 utilizes two azimuth thrusters, providing superior maneuverability. The vessel also includes dual compressor systems for effective boil-off gas management, ensuring safety and efficiency during operations. A sub-cooler unit helps maintain tank pressure, which is crucial for LNG storage. Furthermore, the vessel is fitted with three manifold stations, allowing for maximum flexibility during bunkering operations.

This collaboration between CIMC SOE and BV emphasizes the importance of trusted partnerships in the maritime sector. By adhering to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility, they are delivering essential bunkering vessels that support the transition to cleaner fuels. As the maritime industry increasingly focuses on decarbonization, LNG serves as a viable transition fuel, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional marine fuels.

BV continues to play a pivotal role in the development of low-carbon alternative fuels. With its extensive expertise in LNG, BV has classified approximately 35% of the world’s bunkering ships currently in service and about 50% of the existing order book. This expertise is crucial as the industry explores the production of methanol and ammonia as future fuel options.
