BW Offshore and McDermott to use FPSOs for blue ammonia production

Houston-based McDermott, a company that works offshore, and BW Offshore, a company from Oslo that specializes in floating production systems, are joining forces to create blue ammonia. This collaboration will help make blue ammonia production more practical and effective.

What is Blue Ammonia?

Blue ammonia is a type of ammonia made from natural gas, but it captures carbon dioxide emissions during production. This makes it a cleaner option compared to traditional ammonia, helping reduce the impact on the environment.

Working Together for Success

McDermott and BW Offshore plan to use their combined skills to produce low-carbon ammonia from a Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit (FPSO). An FPSO is a ship that can produce and store oil and gas while out at sea. This type of vessel can provide several advantages for making ammonia, such as being safer for the environment and workers, ensuring projects stay on schedule, and keeping production costs low.
